Most handheld radios make you dig through menus every time you want to switch channels. The UV-82 doesn't. A split push-to-talk key puts both frequencies under your thumb: press the top half to talk on A, the bottom half to talk on B. This pack comes with two radios in one box, so you can hand one to your partner, crew member or family and start talking.
Keep one eye on a VHF channel and the other on UHF, hear whichever call comes in first, and reply on the right channel without touching a menu. Between calls, tune the built-in FM receiver for music or news; it drops out automatically when a call arrives on your monitored channels. When the light fades, the top-mounted LED torch (with an SOS strobe mode) takes over.
